Questions
FAQ
What is a soca riddim?
A soca riddim is an instrumental beat built for soca music. In Trinidad & Tobago, one riddim is often voiced by several artists, each recording their own song over the same rhythm, and released together as a riddim compilation before Carnival. Riddims are usually named (for example "Kette Drum Riddim") and fans search for them by name.
How do I lease or buy a soca riddim from Aftershock 868?
Pick a riddim from aftershock868.com/riddims/, then choose a non-exclusive lease (other artists can voice it too) or exclusive rights (it's yours alone and is taken off the catalogue).
What's the difference between a lease and exclusive rights on a riddim?
A lease is a non-exclusive licence. You can release your song on the riddim, but the producer can keep licensing the same riddim to other artists. Exclusive rights mean only you can use that riddim from then on, so it costs more and the riddim is withdrawn from sale. Aftershock 868 lists the status of every riddim (available, leased, or exclusive-sold) on its catalogue page.
